Hollywood’s Original Thai Joint emerges in a Motel in the late 1970’s

Hollywood’s “Original Thai Joint “ emerges in a Motel in the late 1970’s. Sapp Coffee Shop was a humble little joint as one of the first known shop in shops embracing alternative culture and the LGBTQ community. Our commitment to accepting ALL as been a major part of our longevity in Hollywood and til this day we stay true to our roots.

This little Thai joint got its debut in a gritty, classic Hollywood Motel as a Coffee Shop by day and a Thai food joint by night. The owner of the Motel agreed to rent the small diner to Sapp as long as they served a classic American breakfast to tourists and a cup of American coffee.

Sapp quickly became an institution in Hollywood for serving authentic common Thai dishes as well as good old fashioned American breakfasts. With continued success of the Sapp Coffee Shop into the early 80’s, Sapp moved a few blocks down the street and opened its first free-standing restaurant that now serves “Real Thai food” only and kept the original name:

“ Sapp Coffee Shop”.
